Calgary’s TEN Nightclub shuts down 3 weeks after brazen shooting

CALGARY- Less than a month after a brazen shooting inside its doors, Calgary’s TEN Nightclub announced Monday it is closing for good.

“We would like to start by thanking each of you for all of your support over the past four years… This weekend was our last,” Paul Boodang wrote on the club’s Facebook page.

“This was not an easy decision for us, but given the recent unfortunate events that unfolded at the venue, it was a decision that had to be made.”

A gunman opened fire inside the club in the early hours of Jan. 10, injuring a 38-year-old man who was taken to hospital in stable condition. Two Calgary men, Mohamed Elmi, 31, and Mohamed Salad, 29, were charged with numerous offences including attempted murder, discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life and aggravated assault.

Witnesses said the shooter was jumped by staff right away, with the loaded gun still in his hands.  Two of the club’s bouncers were credited for saving more people from being shot, as they put their lives on the line to tackle the gunman.
