Mark Scheifele puts up four points to lead Winnipeg Jets past Edmonton Oilers

WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Jets scored four power-play goals to beat the Edmonton Oilers 5-1 in pre-season play at MTS Centre on Friday.

Mark Scheifele led the way with four points to give Winnipeg (2-1-0) its second exhibition win of the season. The forward assisted on Adam Lowry and Joel Armia’s first period goals. Scheifele later scored in the third period before setting up Kyle Connor’s second goal of the pre-season.

Jets captain Blake Wheeler also finished the night with three assists. He picked up points on Lowry, Scheifele and Connor’s goals.

Oscar Klefbom scored Edmonton’s (2-2-0) only goal of the game. The Oilers outshot Winnipeg 34-21.

Patrik Laine, the second overall pick in this summer’s NHL Entry Draft, logged one shot and 13:57 of ice time in his first game with the Jets.

Winnipeg defenceman Dustin Byfuglien did not return for the third period after suffering a lower-body injury. Byfuglien was involved in a fight with Matt Hendricks earlier in the game.
