‘Jeopardy!’ is once again allowing Canadians to apply

Canadians are once again allowed to try out for Jeopardy!

In February, the popular game show, hosted by Canadian Alex Trebek, had stopped allowing Canadians to apply due to unspecified privacy concerns.

But now, that’s changed. In a statement issued earlier this month, officials from the show said both Canadians and Americans were welcome to apply for the 33rd season of the show.

“I am pleased to report that the registration issue experienced by some of our Canadian contestant hopefuls last season has been rectified, and we look forward to seeing more of my fellow citizens from the north on the show soon,” Canadian host Alex Trebek said in a news release.

If you want to play, you’ll have to register soon; the next college-level test is scheduled for Sept. 28, and the adult version of the test is scheduled for Oct. 4-6. More information can be found on the Jeopardy! website.

The reason Canadians couldn’t apply to be contestants: What is “international law?” according to a February statement from Jeopardy!

“As international laws governing how information is shared over the internet are ever-changing and complex, we are currently investigating how we can accept registrations from potential Canadian contestants,” an emailed statement from the show’s producers stated.

Global News has reached out to Jeopardy! officials to find out what changed, but did not receive a response by the time of publication.
