WINNIPEG – A third straight victory has the Winnipeg Goldeyes in the driver’s seat in the American Association championship series.
The Goldeyes scored two runs in the second inning and never looked back in defeating the Wichita Wingnuts 5-0 in game one of the league final on Wednesday at Shaw Park.
Josh Romanski led the way at the plate for Winnipeg with a solo home run in the sixth inning. He drove in another run in the seventh inning to finish the night 2/4 at the plate with a pair of runs batted in.

Goldeyes starting pitcher Edwin Carl picked up his second win of the post-season. He was masterful in allowing only four hits over 6.2 shutout innings. He also struck out five Wingnuts’ batters. Victor Capellan and Eric Eadington shut down the Wingnuts the rest of the way as neither reliever allowed a hit.
It was the third straight playoff victory for the Fish after winning the final two games of the division series to eliminate the St. Paul Saints.
Game two of the best of five championship series is on Thursday at Shaw Park. Kevin McGovern will be on the mound for the Goldeyes. The series will then shift to Wichita for the final three games if necessary.
