Man in critical condition after 2-vehicle crash near Drumheller

Two people were taken to hospital, one in life-threatening condition, after a serious two-vehicle collision on Highway 9 near Drumheller Friday night.

Around 8:30 p.m. Mounties received reports of an erratic driver near Range Road 19-3. The small sedan was said to have been crossing the center line and entering the ditch.

RCMP went to the area but didn’t find the vehicle. A short time later police received reports of a head-on collision on Highway 9, five kilometres north of Drumheller.

Police said a 2006 Ford Fusion crossed the centre line and collided with an on-coming 2012 Dodge Ram pickup truck.

The 43-year-old man driving the car was airlifted via STARS to hospital in critical condition. The 29-year-old driver of the truck was driven to hospital in stable condition.

Police are investigating to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved. Charges have not been laid.

Traffic on Highway 9 was diverted for several hours Friday night while the collision was investigated. The highway was later re-opened.
