Talks for Calgary-Edmonton rail line back on track

 CALGARY- Could Alberta finally get a long-talked about rail line?

According to the transportation minister, the province has received yet another pitch for a high-speed line between Calgary and Edmonton-though he won’t say who is pushing for the project.

“I take people seriously when they come, and there are some people from substantial business interests that are coming forward,” said Ric McIver.

A recent study found that a rail line would provide billions of dollars in benefits to the corridor, and that there is sufficient demand.

While a train could reduce travel time between the two cities, the price tag has so far kept the project shelved.

One of the main obstacles is securing a right-of-way for the tracks, which would have to stretch for about 300 kilometers between Calgary and the provincial capital.
