The watches were issued Friday because conditions were favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms for counties directly east of Calgary

All watches directly east of Calgary were lifted after 6:00 p.m. and watches were activated along the Alberta/Saskatchewan border from Lac Le Biche to Oyen.
Severe thunderstorms can bring strong wind gusts, heavy rain and large hail.
A watch is issued when potentially dangerous weather is possible. Watches will be upgraded to warnings once severe weather is imminent or occurring.
