More details have been released about the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s upcoming visit to Canada, to take place between Sept. 24 and Oct. 1.
Kensington Palace has revealed Prince William, his wife, Kate, Prince George and Princess Charlotte will visit Vancouver, Victoria, Bella Bella, Haida Gwaii and Kelowna.
They will then move on to Whitehorse and Carcross in the Yukon.
The visit will start in Victoria on Sept. 24 with an official welcome. The family will then visit the following cities on these dates:
- Sept. 25 – Vancouver
- Sept. 26 – Bella Bella
- Sept. 27 – Victoria and Kelowna, then Whitehorse, Yukon
- Sept. 28 – Whitehorse and Carcross (including a public celebration in Whitehorse)
- Sept. 29 – Victoria
- Sept. 30 – Haida Gwaii
- Oct. 1 – Victoria
A statement from the Office of the Minister of Canadian Heritage says the the Duke and Duchess will “participate in events and activities that highlight the work Canadians are doing to preserve the environment, empower young people, improve mental health, encourage active living and highlight Indigenous culture and heritage.”
This will be the first time the Duke of Cambridge has toured Yukon and British Columbia in an official capacity. However, the Duke visited British Columbia once before on a private working visit in 1998, where he joined the Prince of Wales and his brother Prince Harry on a skiing vacation at Whistler.
“As celebrations for the 150th anniversary of Confederation draw ever closer, we are delighted to welcome Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on their second Royal Tour to Canada,” Minister of Canadian Heritage Mélanie Joly said in a release. “During this tour, Their Royal Highnesses will shine a light on the dedication and service of many Canadians who are doing important work in our Northern and West Coast communities.”
This will be the Royal Couple’s second visit to Canada. Their first royal tour was conducted in late June and early July 2011, when they visited Ontario, Montréal, Québec City, Charlottetown, Summerside, Yellowknife, Slave Lake and Calgary.
In July2016, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau formally invited the Royal Couple and their children to visit Canada via a letter of invitation.
