Representatives from exotic bird refuge, Perroquets en folie in Saint-Placide, said a man stole a prized parakeet named Paco from its cage Saturday afternoon.

Security camera footage supplied by the bird sanctuary clearly shows a grey-haired man with a blue jacket entering part of the sanctuary, opening the Alexandrine parakeet’s cage and carrying him off while perched on his finger.

“The problem is that he’s got such a good personality, he likes people and he’s very sociable,” said Melie Breton, who owns the bird zoo.

Breton said she wants the alleged thief to come forward and return Paco within 24 hours – or she is threatening to involve the police.

This is the second time Paco’s been bird-napped.

The first time occurred in 2011 and it took an investigation by provincial police and about a year to get the bird back.

On the open market, Paco could fetch as much as $2,000.

Alexandrine parakeets originally hail from India, can live to be about 30-years-old and are known to be good mimics.

Of the 150 birds at the Perroquets en folie zoo, Paco was the only Alexandrine.
