Make sure you bring your rain gear if you’re heading outside on Tuesday as Environment Canada is calling for “significant widespread rainfall” in Toronto and most of Southern Ontario.
Meteorologists issued a special weather statement on Monday saying the city could expect 25 to 40 millimetres of rain. Forecasters warned some areas could see over 60 millimetres.
Environment Canada said the rain is due to a slow-moving low pressure system from Texas that is bringing tropical moisture from the Gulf of Mexico.
The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority issued a statement on Monday asking people to use caution when travelling near bodies of water.
“The expected rainfall, in combination with possibly more intense thunderstorms, may rapidly increase water levels and flow rates within streams and rivers and potentially cause flooding in low lying areas,” the statement said in part.

“All rivers and streams within the GTA should be considered dangerous due to the slippery river banks and higher water levels and flows.”
There is good news when it comes to the weather for the rest of the work week, however, as Environment Canada is forecasting mainly sunny conditions with temperatures hovering around 27 to 28 C.
