Alberta eases rules regarding restaurant patios

Restaurant and bar patios will now be open longer. Sarah Offin, Global News

The Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission has eliminated restrictions on Alberta patios.

Restaurants and bars are now able to serve alcohol past midnight on patios as late as they’re allowed to serve it indoors.

The change comes with the elimination of the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission’s “patio hours” policy, which for the last 20 years has restricted liquor service and live entertainment.

The AGLC patio hours policy was initially meant to control noise from DJ booths, live entertainment and stereos located outdoors.

That responsibility will now fall on the local municipality.

The change went into effect Monday.
