WATCH ABOVE: After a long fight with city officials, there's some relief for Ewa and Kamila Lewandowska, who were told an exterminator would finally take care of bed bugs that have infected their social housing home for the past month. Global's Tim Sargeant reports – Aug 5, 2016

Hot steam was applied throughout the apartment unit of the Lewandowska family Friday afternoon.

A daughter, mother and grandmother have been living with bed bugs in their low-income home on St-Ambroise Street for almost two months.

They’re just hoping the work of the exterminator will be enough to eradicate the blood-sucking insects once and for all.

“It was really hard living because every night they would bite my mom or me,” eight-year-old Dalia Lewandowska told Global News.

The Lewandowska family has been fighting city officials to get the job done as quickly as possible.

Officials with Montreal’s low-income housing board told Global News there are nine other units in the same building that have been infested and treated.

Sixteen more were treated as a preventative measure.
