The City of Calgary is warning drivers about three large-scale paving projects set to cause some slowdowns for drivers in August.
The projects on 14 Street N.W., John Laurie Boulevard N.W. and Macleod Trail S.E. will cause lane and speed disputations.
“Major thoroughfares like 14 Street N.W., John Laurie Boulevard N.W. and Macleod Trail S.E. are rehabilitated every 12 to 15 years,” spokesperson Barry Poon said.
A typical construction season sees roughly six or seven projects. This year, there’s 12.
“Typically during a construction season projects are scheduled throughout the summer to reduce impact to motorists,” explained a news release. “Due to the substantial amount of rainfall in July, the window for completing these projects has been shortened considerably.”
14 Street N.W.
Paving on 14 Street N.W. begins on Monday, Aug. 8 and is expected to run until late September.
Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction on 14 Street N.W. in four separate stages from 8 Avenue N.W. to Memorial Drive N.W.
Turn restrictions will be in place and motorists are advised to use alternate routes during construction.
John Laurie Boulevard N.W.
Initial concrete repairs on John Laurie Boulevard N.W. are scheduled to begin on Friday, Aug. 5, weather permitting, with paving starting on Saturday, Aug. 20.
Paving is schedule to go through until Aug. 30.
Macleod Trail S.E.
Initial work on Macleod Trail S.E. is scheduled to begin on Friday, Aug. 19, with reduced lanes between 34 Avenue and 58 Avenue S.E.
Paving then begins on Sunday, Aug. 21 and will last through until Sept. 3.
