FORT ERIE, Ont. – Amis Gizmo took a huge lead at the top of the stretch and cruised to win the $500,000 Prince of Wales Stakes on Tuesday night.
Jockey Luis Contreras took Amis Gizmo, the 6/5 favourite, away from the field for an unofficial six-length win in the second jewel of the Canadian Triple Crown in 1:56.76 on a fast track at Fort Erie Racetrack.
Leavem In Malibu was second in the 1 3/16-mile dirt race ahead of Niigon’s Edge.
Queen’s Plate champion Sir Dudley Digges was sixth in the eight-horse field, leaving Wando as the last Triple Crown winner in 2003.
The third and final Triple Crown event is the $500,000 Breeders’ Stakes, a 1 1/2-mile turf event slated for Aug. 14 at Toronto’s Woodbine Racetrack.
