Drivers who frequent Macleod Trail will be subject to intermittent road closures over the next two weeks as the City of Calgary upgrades a series of aging watermain valves.
Starting Monday, crews will be working at five locations between 34 Avenue S.W. and 50 Avenue S.W.
“We’ve developed a plan to stage construction throughout this 12-day period when summer traffic volumes are lower,” City of Calgary spokesperson Marissa Mitton said in a news release.

Mitton said the City of Calgary’s Water Services crews will be working extended hours (6:30 a.m. – 9:30 p.m.) and on weekends to minimize traffic delays.”
During the project, commuters are warned to expect lane closures and detours.
Although primarily southbound lanes will be impacted, northbound lanes will be partially closed at 34 Avenue S.W. for three days starting July 26.
According to the City of Calgary, the valves being replaced are between 45 and 89 years old.
The project is expected to continue through until July 30.
