MAPLE RIDGE, B.C. – The Conservation Officer Service says it has trapped a bear that may be responsible for an attack in Maple Ridge, B.C.
A woman’s face was cut in the incident that occurred on the deck of her rural home at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Inspector Murray Smith says the mother bear may have knocked the woman over while running away, leaving her with a laceration.
Smith says the bruin was caught about 12 hours after the incident that took place about 60 kilometres east of Vancouver.
He says the mother bear and her three cubs are being relocated to an area north of Mission after officers came to the conclusion the bear didn’t have a previous history of interacting with humans.
“We’ve got no history with this bear, other than what we have in this one situation,” said Smith.
“The plan is to relocate the bears within the home range of this family unit.”
