Suspect charged with manslaughter in deadly assault outside Kelowna Cactus Club

A man was punched outside a Kelowna restaurant February 17, leaving him unresponsive on the ground. Contributed/ Global Okanagan

Charges have been laid in a Kelowna homicide case.

The night of February 17, Zachary Gaudette was punched outside Kelowna’s Cactus Club. He laid on the ground outside the restaurant, unresponsive, before being transferred to Kelowna General Hospital. Gaudette died two days later from head injuries.

Cory Richard Eric Van Gilder has now been charged with manslaughter.

Police identified a suspect back in April, but Van Gilder has just recently been charged.

Gaudette, 30, was from Ontario.
