Oakbank’s Brett Howden was the only Manitoba chosen in the first round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

The forward went 27th overall to the Tampa Bay Lightning. He was ranked 22nd among North American skaters heading into the draft.

Howden scored 24 goals and 40 assists in 68 games last season with the WHL’s Moose Jaw Warriors.

His older brother is NHL’er Quinton Howden who was selected 25th overall by the Florida Panthers in 2010.
