WINNIPEG — Winnipeg Goldeyes’ starting pitcher Edwin Carl was named the American Association’s pitcher of the week on Monday.
Carl, 27, picked up a win and a no decision in two starts last week. He had a 0.69 ERA and struck out 17 batters in just 13 innings.

On Tuesday Carl fanned seven Sioux City Explorers’ batters while scattering four hits over seven innings in picking up the victory. On Sunday the right-handed pitcher whiffed a season high 10 batters over six shutout innings in taking a no-decision against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.
His 10 strikeouts were only one short of his career-high which he accomplished three times during the 2015 season.
