After getting embarrassed by the Sioux City Explorers in the series opener, the Winnipeg Goldeyes returned the favour in a big way on Tuesday.
The Goldeyes scored six-first inning runs en route to an 11-1 blowout win over the Explorers at Lewis and Clark Park in Sioux City, Iowa. It was Rick Forney’s 1000th game as Goldeyes manager in this his 11th season as skipper of the club.
David Rohm started off the run scoring parade in the first inning. He hit a bases loaded double that would clear the bases for an early three-run Goldeyes lead. Wes Darvill added to the lead with a two-run triple. Casio Grider would close out the scoring in the first inning, bringing home Darvill with a double for 6-0 lead. The Goldeyes batted around the order as they sent nine batters to the plate in the first inning.
After scoring one run in each the third and fourth innings, the Goldeyes tacked on three more in the fifth inning to set a new season high for runs in a game.
Winnipeg belted out a total of 18 hits with nine different players recording at least one hit. Rohm finished the night 5-for-5 at the plate to improve his league leading batting average to .456. He also had five runs batted in.

Goldeyes starter Edwin Carl picked up the win to improve to 2-1 on the season. He surrendered a fourth inning home run to former Goldeyes infielder Nate Samson. But that was his only blemish in tossing seven innings of four hit ball. Carl struck out seven while he walked three Explorers’ batters.
The Fish hammered Explorers starting pitcher Eric Wordekemper who lasted just three innings. He gave up seven runs on seven hits and he walked a pair of Goldeyes’ batters. The loss dropped his record to 1-2 in four starts in 2016.
