The Sioux City Explorers’ bats were scorching hot on Monday night.

The Explorers pounded out 17 hits in handing the Winnipeg Goldeyes a 12-2 loss to open a seven-game road trip in Sioux City.

The Explorers scored eight unanswered runs including three runs in each the first, seventh and eighth innings and never relinquished the lead.

Noah Perio led the way for the Explorers as he went 3-for-5 at the plate with three runs batted in. Ralph Henriquez also had three RBI in the victory.

Risse picked up his second win of the season moving to 2-0. He went five innings, allowed just two runs on six hits, while striking out five.

Duke Von Schamann was tagged with the loss as his record fell to 1-2. He lasted 5.2 innings and gave up six earned runs while surrendering 11 hits.

Conor Spink replaced Von Schamann midway through the sixth inning but he allowed three runs in just one inning of work. Zach Dando came on in the seventh inning but wasn’t much better. The X’s scored three more runs off Dando in the eighth inning to close out the scoring. Only two of those runs were earned though as Winnipeg committed four errors.

The three game series continues tomorrow night at Lewis and Clark Park as Rick Forney will manage his 1000th game with the Goldeyes.
