1 person killed in highway crash near Mayerthorpe, Alta.

One person died and another was critically injured in a collision northwest of Edmonton over the weekend.

On Saturday afternoon, RCMP said an SUV was making a left hand turn onto Highway 22 from Highway 43 into the Town of Mayerthorpe when it was struck by a pickup truck that was travelling west on Highway 43.

A passenger of the SUV died in the crash and the driver was taken to hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the truck suffered non life-threatening injuries.

The RCMP is investigating the cause of the collision.

Mayerthorpe is 138 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
