Blue ribbons filled the community of Tuscany over the weekend. Hundreds were put on trees and posts starting on Saturday afternoon, as a show of support for the family of a young girl.

On Thursday, seven-year-old Sloane was critically injured after her father accidentally hit her with his truck while backing down the family’s driveway.

Empathy for the family is being felt by many, the blue ribbons and kind words written in chalk on the driveway are proof.

“It really is a symbol of hope and we are still with the family,” 12-year-old Emily Ralph said, a resident of Tuscany. “It’s really heart warming to see people care that much and give that kind of support.”

Police are calling what happened as a tragic accident. Sgt. Dave Dentandt said even for first responders it was a tough scene to be called to.

“This call is probably the hardest call that officers have to respond to – when a child is involved and it’s a complete accident,” Sgt. Dentandt said. “Not only do we have to deal with the innocent victim, family members are there, friends are nearby.”

Beyond the ribbons there has also been an outpouring of donations.  The GoFundMe site has collected more than $50,000.

As of Sunday, Sloan remained on life support in critical condition.
