Delta’s mayor is adding her name to the list of people calling for lower tolls on the Port Mann Bridge.

This comes as traffic on the Pattullo Bridge is reduced to one lane in each direction because of construction.

Those are are not waiting out the long lines are heading to other free crossings, like the Alex Fraser Bridge.

As for the Port Mann, traffic is up 15 per cent since the start of construction at the Pattullo.

“It makes no sense at all,” said Delta Mayor Lois Jackson. “We should have taken tolls off the Port Mann in order to alleviate the problem.”

Transportation Minister Todd Stone said they will not be lowering the tolls on the Port Mann Bridge. “There are financial obligations that have to be met,” he said.

Delta Police are also writing more tickets these days as people try to take shortcuts to get on the Alex Fraser Bridge and end up making maneuvers such as illegal u-turns.
