MONTREAL – Commuters are being asked to use the Jacques-Cartier and Victoria bridges as alternatives because part of the Champlain Bridge will be closed over Mother’s Day weekend.
“The Champlain Bridge will be completely closed inbound as of Friday evening at 10 p.m. until Saturday at 10 p.m.,” explained traffic reporter Orla Johannes.
“This is to re-enforce the old structure.”

A number of ramps to and from the Ville Marie and Decarie expressways will also be closed throughout the weekend, as well as a portion of Highway 720.
There will be one lane available heading from Decarie to the A-720 until 2019.
“For the next three years, do expect long delays as you’re heading down Decarie southbound,” said Johannes.
The projects on the Champlain Bridge, Turcot Interchange, Ville-Marie and Bonaventure expressways are expected to be completed by 2020.
“At the end of 2017, we’ll have a new Bonaventure, which will look a lot better than what we had before,” said traffic consultant Rick Leckner.
“By the end of 2018, most of the Champlain Bridge should be done and by 2020, the Turcot should be done. So, a lot of pain for, hopefully, a lot of gain.”
