Canada lost 68,000 jobs in September, Statistics Canada said on Friday, marking a slight decline of 0.3 per cent.
This marks a second month of declining jobs after roughly 42,000 jobs were lost in August.
The unemployment rate ticked up slightly to 6.5 per cent from 6.4 per cent, the data showed.
The losses were split fairly evenly between full-time work (35,000) and part-time work (33,000).
Job losses were concentrated among younger people, with youth aged 15 to 24 losing 48,000 jobs in September, as well as women aged 25 to 54, who lost 28,000 jobs.

The youth unemployment rate was little changed at 13 per cent.
The education sector lost 35,000 jobs, while health and social assistance industry lost 23,000 jobs. Canada also lost 13,000 manufacturing jobs.
The August job losses snapped a hot streak for the labour market, but economists weren’t overly concerned and instead pointed to the relatively stable unemployment rate as a sign the labour market wasn’t taking a major step back.
Friday’s jobs data is the Bank of Canada’s last look at the labour market before its next interest rate decision on Oct. 28.
The central bank has kept its key lending rate unchanged at 2.25 per cent for about a year, but market expectations have been shifting lately, with slightly higher odds we’ll see a hike coming sooner rather than later.

Americans 75 and older are wealthiest age group, Fed survey finds”.
Looks like the boomers in the states are doing the same thing lol.
Hey Alberta, imagine gaining independence and with that you would gain the power to KICK AND BAN every single one of these goobernemnt funded propaganda machines from your borders!!
Man, this site is pitiful
I hope the entire auto industry in Canada moves to the USA. Then all the auto workers who lose their jobs can demand answers from Clowney and Lard Ford.
The destruction of Canada’s industry only benefits foreign competitors, i.e. who Carney, Joly & co are truly working for.
Three different writers using the handle “Anonymous” .. how do you tell the difference? Ben can tell .
Canada is a disaster
Get out while you can Alberta
And of course the anonymous bot is all over the page onthis one. Go f*ck yurself azzhole.
@AI Overview
Yes I agree. It was boomers that tipped the scales to give the Carney Liberals the election win. However, there are many boomers who voted Conservative. The reality of our national elections is that the east decides the election result long before we out west finish voting. THAT is a more pressing issue that needs to be resolved if there is to be fair elections going forward.
AI Overview
Yes, baby boomers heavily voted for and supported Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal Party in the 2025 Canadian federal election, breaking traditional political patterns where older voters lean conservative.
Polling data and post-election analysis from sources like Abacus Data via the BBC and The Hub show distinct trends:
• Strong Boomer Support for Liberals: Voters aged 60 and older formed the core base that powered the Liberal victory, leading the Conservatives by double digits among older demographics (with leads reaching over 20 points in late 2025 and early 2026 tracking).
• The Generational Divide: While older Canadians (55+) rallied behind Carney, younger demographics—particularly Millennials and Gen Z, alongside working-age men—largely favored Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives, driven by frustrations over housing costs, inflation, and the cost of living.
• Key Motivations for Boomers: Older voters prioritized stability, economic crisis-management experience, and a perceived steady hand against external threats—such as U.S. trade and tariff pressures under Donald Trump—over the platform changes offered by the Conservatives
Stop blaming boomers, put the blame where it belongs… liberal party!!!
These are not boomers who voted them in… these are union workers + Ontario , Quebec and eastern provinces. This is the voting system here in Canada that is screwed up beyond repair and no one in power wants to fix it. And conservatives act like they don’t care to win elections.
We have never had it so good according to Carney and the Liberals. Well we ain’t seen nothing yet. Thanks to Carney walking away from the deal in which he tried to slide Chinese EV’s into the US, Canadians are going to lose more jobs. Unfortunately this isn’t going to end well for Canadian workers and their families and it is all due to Carney’s loyalty to the CCP and his total disregard for Canadian families’ suffering.
Keep voting Liberal everyone ! Enjoy !
No worries, it was mostly young people and women losing their jobs. Screwing them over at every opportunity is like sport to us; the only thing we’re upset about is that it wasn’t us doing it this time.
@ Ozzie,
Remember those budgets will balance themselves, peoplekind and the veterans were asking to much. Also the paperbox thingies and black face and the Covid lock downs. He had some job experience as a drama teacher and made Canada great again as that is your theory about PP just because he has not had “real job experience “ . You assume that because of your seemingly fear of him that he would have done a worse job than the last 12 years.
Comically how society is so influenced by media propaganda by deflecting all of problems to a foreign leader and not looking at our own governments that have done nothing to lower costs of living in the past 12 years.
Carneys Elbows Up Anti-American approach is a foolish choice. These are business transactions and it would be good for Carney and his cronies to settle down and leave feelings and emotions out of it.
How dare MSN report real news. Shouldn’t they just report bad MAGA news!
The LPC was busy delaying our election and shutting down parliament to save their party from oblivion. Instead of a functioning mobilized government to negotiate with Trump even before he entered office, we had government MPs electioneering in their ridings. Worst of all, they wanted to us fear Trump, a unifying figure for us to rally against so we would vote for the incumbent. They antagonized instead of negotiated. They came up with cliches, elbows up and middle powers. Trump went from congratulating Carney on making trade deal overtures with China, to warning Canada that a trade deal with China would be seen as threat to America. Carney antagonized with his speeches and a certain segment of our society claps in joy. The UK, France, Germany, and other nations keep their views on Trump private and they negotiate behind the scenes.
@Ben. Tell that to the people who lost their jobs Canada’s economy was on life support before Trump. Thanks to Trudeau and Carney.
Ben @1229 pm. Back to posting under my name Anonymous? Guess “insufferable Ben” doesn’t work. It’s hilarious how people get triggered! Carry on!
Job security is still ranking high across Canada with no economic slowdown. Carney was the right man for Canada after all.
@Louis Riel. Using Riel’s name while making that comment is beyond the pale. Learn history!
I have no way of defending our incompetent government, so I play the Trump card, like Eby.
F *ucking Boomers put Carnage in power and kept the Liberals alive. You all need to shoot yourselves now.
Stop acting like this is new because it isnt new
Message to Louis Riel, I’m sorry your parents didn’t love you.
Signed; Loving retirement. Lol
yah,,numbers are more ..
immigrants are coming many jobs .. hold on.
Tough times but unavoidable, just thankful P.P. is not running the show.
Can only imagine what a mess a career politician with no real job experience nor financial acumen
would have us in.I think S.Harper even recognizes this.
Hopefully someday Liberals will see that Trump is a problem but not a major problem. The big major problem for Canada is the Liberals. Look at the clown Eby. A majority government for 2 more years. Calls an election that he thinks he could win by pointing the finger at Trump. People of BC see right though this and realize it’s not Trump but Eby that’s destroying BC. Now we just need the rest of Canada to see that Trump isn’t as big of a problem as Carney.
All you can do is shake your head. I’m sure it’s all trumps fault.
That’s what you get when you have a dirty, corrupt Liberal Party of Canada, they are so dirty and corrupt. It aint funny anymore and more keep losing more and more jobs. Because are incompetent, government incompetent, government and the 30 corrupt government?
Carney is a total flop. LoL
Welcum to cunada, land of opportunity! Hahaha hahaha hahaha hahaha 🤣
A message to selfish, useless Canadian boomers: You won’t have a peaceful retirement. You’ll be the first thrown under the bus. You can’t take it with you, but you’ll clutch it to your chest to your dying breath because that’s all this life meant to you. Karma comes and I smell your fear as I laugh.
But but Carney made all those nice speeches garnering international acclaim
Elbows up!
Oh well, you voted for it…. ooops, actually you didn’t but the voting system in Canada works just like that and then on top of it your get all those floor crossing “addition” so you will end up with a majority of minority seats/votes.
Elbows Up
Lmao
The Liberal Supporters want Trudeau Back ! (Fools.)
Thank Carney!! Do a great job of building at speeds never seen before, perhaps should say at the slowest rate ever seen before. And don’t blame it all on the US, you sheep got conned into Carney!!
His interest in not in Canada!
If this was the US, they would throw out the president.
Trump and School
Well said Ben. Homelander Carney can do no wrong! He is god and I will follow his teachings. I was wrong to think there is nothing wrong and I will just blame it all on Trump because that is the correct righteous thing to do. Thank you for correcting all of the free thinkers out there.
Mostly public sector jobs were lost, and as Carney said, we are in a trade war with the USA. This war was started by Trump.
Thank someone who has their elbows in the air. They don’t care though. Their house is probably paid off, job security or theyre collecting an inflation adjusted pension. They’ll be fine. It’s just those of us who keep the CPP and all the other pensions afloat that will be screwed.
This is easy to predict. Come December there will be a slight increase in jobs and then come January there will be more lost jobs. Then comes spring and in May and June there will be an increase in jobs. Happens every year.
What is sad is that instead of doing anything to keep people employed and working to lower the costs of living for all Canadians the Liberals just blame Trump and tariffs. Easy scape got and keeps the fear levels up so Canadians don’t realize how bad of a job the Liberals have done under Trudeau and now Carney! Keep voting for the same and expecting different outcomes is a bit of insanity!
At least Quebec has its sovereignty?
Carney was celebrating a blip in job gains in June/July. Mainly temp jobs from World Cup and more Uber Eats drivers. He has done a poor job so far.
The Liberal failures continue to stack up.
Liberals that constantly want to defer responsibility and blame everyone but themselves are the problem.
Thanks, Carney!!!
100K jobs in 2 months. Their plan is coming along nicely, I see.
Great job “Elbows Up” Carney. Time to get a trade deal done with USA just like you promised in 2025.
A 57 year record was set in 2024 when 106,000+ Canadians emigrated away from Canada, and that was a year before tariffs. The following year in 2025 a new record was set with 120,000+ leaving Canada.
Thanks to the Lost Liberal Decade
The Lost Liberal Decade is now become a dozen years.
Bob
We are loosing jobs because Liberal policies and Carney’s inability to negotiate trade deals!
Only going to get worse. Enjoy the “new world economy ” courtesy of the Elbowzo voters
Who cares if it is the tariffs or not, they are jobs lost!!. People who blame Trump are either mentally dead or insane. Blame the pathetic Liberals for their anti job policies. When you have dimwits like Carney (who has the smartest man in the room syndrome) and people like Champagne (Finance) and Joly (industry) Canada is in trouble. You get what you vote for….a disaster. Wake up Canada or we are going to be like France and England!
Canada Strong is only Carney’s hype!
Sorry guys. Ben’s TDS is acting up especially bad this morning.
Let’s wait for the stats. We may be losing jobs because of Trump’s tariffs.
