3 men injured in serious crash on Highway 11 in central Alberta

Three men suffered serious injuries in a crash in central Alberta on Thursday.

Emergency crews were called to the Joffre Bridge on Highway 11 near Blackfalds, Alta., at around 7:30 a.m.

RCMP said a GMC Sierra travelling westbound crossed the centre lane, colliding with an eastbound Ford F150. The Sierra then collided with an eastbound Nissan Pathfinder.

The driver of the Ford F150, a 43-year-old man, was air-lifted to the University of Alberta Hospital by STARS Air Ambulance in stable condition.

The driver of the GMC Sierra, a man in his 20s, was transported to hospital in Red Deer, where he was then air-lifted to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary in serious, potentially life-threatening condition.

The driver of the Nissan Pathfinder was taken to hospital in Red Deer by ground ambulance.

All three victims were the only occupants in their vehicles.

The collision caused the temporary closure of Highway 11 at the Joffre Bridge.
