Calgary police have charged a man with manslaughter in connection with a violent incident in the southeast community of Copperfield last month that resulted in a man’s death.
Police said a confrontation involving three men occurred at about 10:55 p.m. on Thursday, March 24 outside of a liquor store in the 15500 block of McIvor Boulevard S.E.
They said it started with a verbal argument inside the store, and then escalated in the parking lot.
Investigators believe one of the men punched another, causing the victim to lose consciousness and strike his head on the pavement.
The victim, Peter William Nassichuk, 37, of Calgary, was taken to hospital in serious condition.
But more than two weeks later, on April 11, he died from his injuries.
Nassichuk was described in an obituary as a free-spirited person who enjoyed painting, skateboarding, and playing numerous sports with his niece and nephew and his friends from junior high and high school.
He is survived by his mother and a sister.
Rico Alan Properzi, 31, of Calgary, is charged with one count of manslaughter. He surrendered to police Thursday morning.
The third man, an acquaintance of Properzi, does not face any charges.
