MONTREAL – A 51-year-old Drummondville man was rushed to hospital in critical condition after he was struck by a a tractor-trailer while changing a tire on the side of a highway.
The incident happened at 5:30 a.m. saturday on Highway 20 near Drummondville, Que.
According to police, the victim stopped his car on the side of the highway because of a flat tire. He was kneeling by the side of his car, changing the tire, when he was struck by a vehicle police believe is a tractor-trailer.
Sgt. Daniel Thibodeau, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec, said the force of the impact threw the victim several metres.
A passerby assisted the injured man and called emergency services.
The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition. According to the latest reports, he remains in critical but stable condition.
The SQ is asking for anyone with information to call 911 or *4141.
Police believe the truck involved in the collision is a 45-, or 53-foot tractor-trailer.
