An effort to curb Surrey’s growing problem of gun violence appears to be working.

More than 100 weapons have been turned over to police as part of a secret amnesty program by RCMP.

The drive has been operating quietly for weeks and allows some gun owners to hand over illegal firearms without facing criminal charges.

There have been more than 30 shootings in Surrey so far this year and residents have been calling on the police and the city to do something to stop the violence.
