HRM spokesperson Tiffany Chase says they’ve had many requests over the years for a promo product related to the ferry, the rubber ferry being a specific one.
“People love taking the ferry and it is an iconic image for our municipality,” Chase said in an email.

She said that primarily tourists have been asking, and have said they’d pay for the small novelties.
Chase said they’re planning to sell the rubber ferries for about $4 to $5 each — just enough to cover the cost of making them.
“Transit is undertaking this first order to test the waters and see if this initiative will float,” she said.
The tender is for one year, and to make 1,000 ferry toys. If the tubby time ferries are successful, there will be an option to renew the contract.
