CALGARY – Police are investigating the discovery of a body in an alley in the northeast community of Harvest Hills.
Police said they got a call from a member of the public, who discovered the man lying in an alley in the 9700 block of Harvest Hills Link around 8:30 a.m. Thursday.
Police said the death is suspicious and taped off an area around the location where the body was found.
Officers were canvassing the area for witnesses and video Thursday.
Jordan Howatt saw the police activity when he went to his estranged wife’s home in Harvest Hills Thursday morning. “Usually, my wife parks her car in the garage,” Howatt said. “She decided to park out front last night. She would have run over the body if she parked in the garage last night.”
Howatt said his wife didn’t see or hear anything, but another neighbour heard what sounded like an argument and a vehicle driving away between 2:30 and 3 a.m.
“One witness in the area reports hearing some kind of disturbance around 2:30 a.m. but we’re not sure if it’s related,” Insp. Don Coleman, of the Major Crimes Section said during a press conference Thursday afternoon.
Coleman suggested there were signs of violence found at the scene.
Alanna Lowen lives nearby and said police were arriving as she drove her kids to school. She said she was “absolutely freaked.”
“Not to mention a year ago there was a dead body found over right by my kids’ school in the alley,” Lowen added.
Police said there is no threat to public safety in the area where the man’s body was found.
An autopsy is pending.
