Mounties investigate after human bones discovered in central Alberta

Bones found in a wooded area outside of Innisfail, Alta. last week have been deemed human, RCMP said Thursday.

Police were called to a wooded area near Highway 2 in the vicinity of Innisfail, Alta. April 5 after someone reported finding bones in the area.

Mounties arrived at the scene at around 7 p.m. and were accompanied by a forensic unit and ground search team.

The bones were sent to the Calgary Medical Examiner’s Office where a forensic pathologist examined them.

The investigation is ongoing; the Calgary Major Crimes unit and medical examiner are working to determine the “sex, age, identity and length of time the remains were exposed to the elements.”
