“Machetes are not uncommon among the criminal element. They aren’t as common as a smaller knife, but we seize machetes on a regular basis,” Cpl. Karyn Kay with Red Deer RCMP said.

Witnesses suggest the thief fled, heading east on foot, crossing a walking bridge on Taylor Drive and climbing into a waiting car.

The vehicle is described as a dark-coloured, four door, Chevrolet Impala with a spoiler on the back.

Police are looking for a male suspect, 18-25 years old, 5’8” – 5’9” tall. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with bright red/orange lettering, black sunglasses, a black ball cap and black gloves.
