Halifax Regional Police say the victim of Tuesday’s shooting on a downtown Dartmouth street is 20-year-old Joseph Douglas Cameron of Dartmouth.
Police responded to reports of shots fired around 5:20 a.m. on Tuesday in the area of Spring Avenue and Mount Edward Road.
They found the body of a young man who had been shot, lying on the sidewalk when they arrived.
The Medical Examiner has ruled the death a homicide.
“Our investigators are following up on leads and now that we know who the victim is, it opens up avenues for us,” said HRP Const. Dianne Woodworth.

Police say the investigation so far has lead them to believe the killing was not a random act.
So far no arrests have been made and police have no suspect description.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for those wishing to contribute to Cameron’s funeral expenses.
At the time of publishing, more than $300 had been donated. Their goal is to raise $4,500.
