Former child star Aaron Carter, who used to sing lighthearted pop songs, has ventured into the political arena and thrown his support behind Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Carter, 28, expresses his opinions very clearly in a recent interview with GQ.

“I support Donald Trump,” he said. “I don’t support every little thing. Trump goes his own way. He’s a leader, not a follower, and he’s proven that by humbling the other campaigns. I think in regards to him becoming a president, well, the electoral college will be the decider.”

This isn’t the first time Carter has admitted his Trump support. On Feb. 27, he endorsed Trump for president on Twitter.

After tweeting his endorsement Carter received many angry replies from people, but he didn’t back down from his position, saying to GQ he didn’t regret posting about Trump.

His vote isn’t set in stone, however, because he doesn’t fully agree with all of Trump’s policies.

“There’s still time to see how it works out,” he explained. “And I haven’t even made my vote. If Trump can’t change some of his ways of thinking, then I’m just going to sit this one out.”

“I don’t agree with banning gay marriage. It’s outlandish, because he has supported the gay community before. And building a wall is totally outrageous.”

Carter admitted to GQ that it’s the first time he’s ever voted in an election.

The singer says he has a new single, Fool’s Gold, coming out on April 1.
