CALGARY – A city councillor is hoping to grow ridership on Calgary CTrains by increasing the number of stops along the Red Line.
Ward 9 Councillor Gian-Carlo Carra is expected to file a notice of motion during a city council meeting on Monday, suggesting the Red Line LRT has “several locations that can physically accommodate new LRT stations.”
The Red Line LRT runs from Somerset-Bridlewood in the city’s south to Tuscany in the north.
Carra is suggesting the city could construct at least three different stations, one near Northland Village Mall in northwest Calgary, one on 50 Avenue Southeast and another between Chinook Station and Heritage station
Carra is hoping administration can prepare a report looking at the viability of infill stations and how LRT operations would be impacted, which he wants completed in 2017.
“Let’s understand all the big moves… ridership, time, cost, these things so we can start planning it in,” Carra said. “It’s time to start making good on the investment we already have in the ground.”
