CALGARY – Periods of light snow and freezing rain caused problems for Calgary commuters on Monday.

The precipitation and cold temperatures caused city streets to become slippery, causing the most issues on bridge decks and entrance/exit ramps.

Police said 70 crashes were reported throughout the city between 8 p.m. on Sunday and 8 a.m. on Monday, including nine with injuries.

“The expected precipitation arrived on time and has managed to disappoint our chance at having a potentially snow-free February,” said Meteorologist Jordan Wiztel. “We are clearing through the day and warming through the week for a nice start to March.”

The forecast high for Monday is 0° with afternoon sunshine expected.
