South Okanagan prolific offender gets psych evaluation

PENTICTON — A forensic psychiatrist will determine if a south Okanagan prolific offender was criminally responsible for a crime spree last summer.

Ronald Arthur Teneycke is facing multiple charges including using an imitation firearm, discharging a firearm with intent to wound or disfigure, robbery and aggravated assault.

He allegedly robbed an Oliver store on July 16, 2015, which sparked a full-scale manhunt. He’s also accused of posing as a hitch hiker and shooting a man who picked him up.

Teneycke was later found in a Cawston orchard.

Defense lawyer Michael Welsh applied for a psychiatric assessment to find out if his client was criminally responsible for the offenses.

The matter will return to court March 16.
