Ontario mom charged after toddler allegedly abandoned in traffic

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – A Peterborough, Ont., woman has been charged after a toddler was allegedly found abandoned in traffic in the city.

Peterborough police responded to a report of a disturbance outside a residence at 12:40 a.m. on Thursday where a woman and a man had allegedly broken the front window and were yelling in the street.

A child in a stroller was allegedly left at the base of the driveway to the home, in a live lane of traffic, and the man and woman allegedly fled the area with the toddler before officers arrived.

Police found the pair a short time later pushing the stroller and officers observed the toddler to be in distress.

A 33-year-old woman, who is the mother of the child, was arrested and charged with causing a disturbance, abandoning a child and failing to provide the necessaries of life.

A 24-year-old man was arrested and charged with causing a disturbance.
