Man struck and killed by vehicle on Highway 9 north of Yorkton

YORKTON – A 22 year-old male is dead after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 9 north of Yorkton Saturday morning.

RCMP say the incident happened around 8 a.m. when the man was walking along Highway 9 and then hit by a northbound travelling car.

Police say the man is from the Keeseekoose First Nation.

According to police, the female driver of the car immediately stopped and tended to the male and called for emergency services. An adult male passenger was also in the vehicle.

The 22 year-old male was transported to Yorkton Regional Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Police are not releasing the victim’s name at this time and an investigation revealed that the male was wearing dark clothing and was not immediately seen by the driver upon being hit.

Police say no charges have been laid against the driver.

The incident is being investigated by the Yorkton RCMP and an RCMP collision reconstructionist.

Highway 9 was closed for the majority of Saturday but has since reopened.

This is the third serious collision to take place on Highway 9 near Yorkton in the past 10 days.
On Jan. 13th one person was killed when a pickup truck collided with a minivan that was attempting to pass another vehicle.

Two days later a 59 year old man was killed when a car was involved in a collision with a semi. The 30 year old male driver of the car was taken to hospital in Regina by STARS Air Ambulance with serious injuries.
