One man dead in second Yorkton crash this week

YORKTON, Sask. – Another person has died in a collision on Highway 9, north of Yorkton, Sask.

According to Yorkton Rural RCMP, the crash happened between an Impala travelling south and a semi truck heading in the opposite direction about three kilometres north of the city on Friday afternoon.

A 59 year old male passenger was ejected from the Impala and died at the scene. The 30 year old driver of the car had to be extracted from the vehicle. He was transported to Yorkton Hosptial, and then to Regina General Hospital via STARS Air Ambulance with multiple fractures to the upper body and extremities.

Names have not been released at this time.

Both occupants of the car were wearing seat-belts at the the time.

The driver of the semi truck was received minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The passenger was not injured.

Mounties say highway conditions were good at the time of the crash and the cause of the collision is not known at this time, but alcohol has been ruled out as a factor.

The crash is the second fatal collision near Yorkton in the past two days. On Jan. 13, one person died after a minivan lost control and was hit by a pickup truck, also on Highway 9.
