The West Vancouver Police Department has joined forces with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

It is the latest community to join IHIT, which means the team now investigates most homicides from Pemberton to the Fraser Canyon.

Within Metro Vancouver, only Vancouver and Delta Police Departments investigate murders within their communities.

West Vancouver Police Chief Len Goerke says, “homicide investigations are complex. After a thorough analysis we have concluded that being a part of IHIT is the best service delivery model that enables us to serve citizens.”

IHIT leaders also claim the integrated model is effective and efficient.

The Homicide Team was formed in 2003, in part to improve co-ordination of multi jurisdictional murder cases.

Lower Mainland Police had faced criticism over a lack of co-ordination investigating high-profile cases, including the Clifford Olson child slayings.
