WATCH: Star Wars fans transform London landmark into giant lightsaber

London’s historic monument Nelson’s Column was transformed into a giant lightsaber Wednesday, to mark the arrival of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

“Star Wars” fever gripped the city as the film’s stars, including Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver, attended the European premiere of the hotly anticipated movie.

Boyega, who stars as Finn in the film, announced the special surprise at the end of the red carpet event, and fans cheered as the Trafalgar Square landmark was lit neon blue.

“The Force Awakens” is the seventh “Star Wars” feature film – the first since Disney bought the franchise for just over four billion dollars.

The movie will be released theaters worldwide starting 16 December, with some box office analysts expecting it to smash sales records.
