Filmmaker Michael Moore is no stranger to controversy.
Moore, 61, has written a letter to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, rebuking him for his recent anti-Muslim comments and his proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the United States. The full letter is here:
In addition to the letter, he posted a photo of himself to his Facebook page, holding a sign that reads “We are all Muslim” while standing outside the Trump Tower in New York City. He was quickly escorted away by police.
“I was raised to believe that we are all each other’s brother and sister, regardless of race, creed or color,” Moore wrote in the letter. “That means if you want to ban Muslims, you are first going to have to ban me. And everyone else.”

Moore also recounts the first time he ever met Trump, which was backstage at a talk show they were both appearing on. Allegedly, according to Moore, Trump was scared to meet him out of fear that Moore might cause a scene.
“I was struck by how you, a self-described tough guy from Queens, seemed like such a fraidey-cat,” Moore wrote. “You and I went on to do the show. Nothing untoward happened between us. I didn’t pull on your hair, didn’t put gum on your seat,” he added. “‘What a wuss,’ was all I remember thinking as I left the set.”

At the end of the letter, Moore asks for everyone who supports his viewpoint to sign a petition and upload a picture of themselves to social media with the hashtag “#WeAreAllMuslim.” He plans to post all the photos to his site and then send them to Trump. He even cheekily invites Trump to join in.
Moore has been derisive of Trump in the past, even calling him “bat-s–t crazy” in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
