The Metro Vancouver Board feels a Mayors Council should be in charge of planning and policy at TransLink, hoping it will help rebuild public confidence in the company.
Board chair Greg Moore feels it would be a good idea to place control of transportation planning with elected officials who are already involved in land-use planning.

Moore says successfully addressing issues facing public transit can only be achieved if elected officials are responsible for how it is delivered.
Currently, the Mayor’s Council has to report to an unelected TransLink Board of Directors that has the final say on decisions.
The provincial government would have to make any legislative changes as it is responsible for the way TransLink is governed.
The province and local leaders have been looking for ways to improve TransLink’s image after losing a funding referendum, despite spending millions of taxpayer dollars trying to convince voters to support it.
