MONTREAL – It was a bittersweet day in the Shaughnessy Village Sunday, as Moe’s was serving up its last meals.
It was just two weeks ago, when Moe’s, the unassuming little diner on the corner of Lambert-Closse and de Maisonneuve, announced that it was closing for good.
The restaurant, also affectionately known as Eddie’s because of the man behind the counter –Big Ed, has been serving up meals for 57 years.
Big Ed’s family took over the greasy spoon in 1978, but struggled when the Montreal Canadiens left the Forum in 1996. They said it’s only gotten worse in recent years.

It was standing room only for patrons who came in for one last meal, or just to say goodbye.
A Moe’s regular told Global News that he’s been coming here for years to eat Sunday breakfast with his kids.
But it’s about more than great food.
“Everybody is friendly,” he said. “It’s like a second home on the weekend.”
One thing is certain, whether you came for the food, or the great service and friendly atmosphere, Moe’s will be missed.
“We’re sad to see them closing but we wish the family the very, very best in the future.”
There’s still time for one last bite, doors close for good at 6:00 a.m. Monday morning.
