SASKATOON – Criminal record and vulnerable sector checks are now available through the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) website. The newly introduced online option was announced Wednesday.
The online process is for persons needing a police screening check for volunteer or employment purposes. In order to apply, applicants must be a resident of Saskatoon.
Web applications are processed much like the normal procedure; however, people can do so from the comfort of their home, 24 hours a day.

SPS charges a basic fee of $35 for a standard criminal record check and $70 for the vulnerable sector screening. The additional $35 is for equipment and staffing resources required to take and process civil fingerprints at police headquarters.
In order to use the online option, an additional $9.95 will be added to the price of each police background check. This covers the cost of procession and authentication via a licensed consumer credit reporting agency.
SPS officials say, in many cases, the additional processing fee will be a reasonable offset to applicants having to come to the police station and frequent wait times.
“It’s not uncommon to have large waiting lines for a criminal record check and we understand the frustration for those who are attempting to volunteer in the community,” said SPS Staff Sgt. Patrick Nogier.
“It’s our intention to alleviate some of this frustration through the availability of an online option.”
If there are no concerns or follow-up required, the police screening documents will be mailed to applicants in a confidential envelope.
Criminal record and vulnerable sector checks are still available in person at police headquarters located at 76 25th Street East.
