Man arrested after colliding with two RCMP vehicles

GRANUM, Alta. – A scary situation Thursday ended with two RCMP vehicles being hit on Highway 519, east of Granum, Alta.

At around 9:30 a.m. a person was seen trying to steal a licence plate in Claresholm.

The suspect then allegedly hit the vehicle he was targeting as he was driving away.

A passerby saw the situation and tracked it while alerting police.

RCMP tried to stop the vehicle on Highway 519; after initially stopping, the suspect backed up and hit one RCMP vehicle and then another, before taking off on foot. He was caught and arrested.

A 29-year-old Fort Macleod man is facing a long list of charges as a result, including hit and run and assaulting a police officer with a weapon.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges are pending.
