Edmonton’s City Centre mall investing in multi-million dollar upgrades

EDMONTON — The food courts at Edmonton City Centre are moving up to the mall’s top floor, as part of a $41.3-million redevelopment.

Olympia Trencevski, with Oxford Properties Group, said the revitalization will serve the changing needs of people in the city’s downtown.

“Over 23,000 new residents are expected to be living downtown by 2019, and thousands of new office workers will occupy the new commercial office buildings currently under construction.

“With so much development happening all around us, we are getting ready to serve this significant new population of retail shoppers with the retail experiences that they want and expect.”

The new downtown arena is also expected to bring an estimated five million people into the area each year.

The new food court will replace two that are now on the mall’s lower level.

The upper level will take advantage of natural light, and a central staircase will be added, in addition to upgrades to escalators and elevators.

Construction will begin in November, with the new food court opening in November 2016. All of the planned upgrades are expected to be complete by November 2017.
